SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein

To share with any labs in TAIWAN which are doing SARS-CoV-2 research

October 23, 2020 update: We have given out free Spike protein to more than 40 laboratories in Taiwan (and one in Canada) since March 2020. We have decided to stop giving out free Spike, however collaboration for research is welcome.

"Open Science" approach has been adapted around the globe in the fight against SARS-CoV-2, here we are happy to share high-quality, human-cell-expressed SARS-CoV-2 spike protein FOR FREE, in order to contribute to Taiwan’'s national research efforts in detection, treatment and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 (2019-nCoV, or Wuhan virus; the causative agent of COVID-19).

The spike protein consists of the whole extracellular domain including S1 (with RBD) and S2, from residue 14 to 1209, no transmembrane domain, with an apparent molecular weight between 170 to 235 kDa on SDS-PAGE (monomer), and ~600 kDa (trimer) on Superose 6 size-exclusion chromatography. It is expressed in HEK 293 cells with human complex type glycans, and exists as a trimer in solution.

於新冠肺炎大流行期間,本於開放式科學的精神,本實驗室將無償分享人類細胞純化之 SARS-CoV-2 刺突蛋白 (Spike protein) 於全台灣研究單位,以促進台灣在檢測、治療和預防 SARS-CoV-2(2019-nCoV 或武漢病毒: COVID-19的病原體)之發展。

本實驗室所純化之刺突蛋白長度為胺基酸列14到1209,於 SDS-PAGE 上的分子量為170-235 kDa 之間,分子篩層析 (Superose 6 ) 的分子量在〜600 kDa(三聚體)。蛋白所帶有的醣基化醣類為複合型醣類,並以三聚體形式存在於水溶液中  。
